How to Apply

Next Call for Applications will be in 2025

We are a small funder awarding just 6 to 8 grants each year. We received 212 eligible expressions of interest in our 2024 Spring Call for Applications. Given the large number of strong applications received we will not be having a second Call for Applications in 2024.

Please check our funding criteria carefully to see if you and your project are eligible for funding. We only progress those applications that clearly meet the funding criteria given below.

Our Funding Criteria

Our objective is to increase the climate resilience of forcibly displaced people and their host communities. We do this by funding initiatives that strengthen livelihoods, reduce vulnerabilities and contribute to environmental recovery and protection.

Grants of up to £75,000 are available. Funds should be used within 18 to 36 months.

We fund initiatives that aim to deliver win-win outcomes for people and planet. All proposals must fulfil all three of the following criteria to be eligible for funding:

  1. Deliver tangible improvements in the quality of life of displaced people and their hosts,
  2. Have a positive impact on the natural environment (protection or restoration).
  3. Foster positive engagement between displaced people and the community that hosts them.

Please note that we do not fund projects that are primarily focused on WASH, irrigation or education.

Who we fund

Our preference is to fund well-run, smaller organisations that are embedded in the communities they serve. We fund:

  • Registered non-profit organisations (NGOs, charities, social enterprises) with a website.
  • Organisations with a minimum annual income of £25,000 and a maximum income of £5 million.

Please note, for reasons beyond our control we cannot fund national NGOs and CBOs in countries subject to international financial sanctions, including Afghanistan and Somalia.

What we will not fund
  • Individuals
  • Emergency Relief
  • The promotion of religious causes
  • Core costs alone (but we are happy to pay an appropriate share of core costs)
  • Academic research
  • Peace building in active conflict settings
  • Projects primarily focused on WASH, irrigation or education.
  • Work in the UK

Please note, our working language is English and we will only consider applications written in English.

Application process

The Trust uses a two-stage application process. All applications are submitted through an on-line system that opens four weeks before the deadline. The link to the form will be published at the bottom of this page. All applications must be submitted in English.

The Stage 1 form (Expression of Interest) collects basic information on your organisation and asks three questions:

  1. What is the problem you want to address?
  2. What will you do?
  3. What results do you expect?

A small number of organisations will be asked to submit a full proposal by completing the Stage 2 form. This form requests more detail on the work you want to undertake and how, including your monitoring framework. We also ask you to upload your accounts, annual report and safeguarding policy. You can find some useful resources on safeguarding on the Bond website.

After applying

Every application will be acknowledged by email within one week of receipt.

We will notify you of the outcome of your application two months after the application deadline. We endeavour to provide all applicants with brief feedback on their application.
